AUSTIN, Texas — The sheriff’s department has filed a false arrest report against a man accused of beating a man with a baseball bat and stealing his car, officials said Wednesday.
Authorities said in a news release that a man named Robert Thomas was arrested in January after a man who was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol drove Thomas to the sheriff�s office and assaulted him, leaving him with injuries.
The sheriff�d use the false arrest to try to keep Thomas out of jail, but the man was able to get out.
The incident took place in the early morning hours of Jan. 28.
Authorities say Thomas was found lying in the street on the outskirts of downtown Tucson.
He was taken to a hospital, where he underwent surgery for his injuries.
Thomas was booked into the Tucson jail, where his bail was set at $10,000.
Thomas has a history of arrests for drug offenses.
He has also been charged with resisting arrest, trespassing and public intoxication.
