Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman said Thursday that he plans to trim the roster to 53 players after trading away center Tyler Johnson, the team announced.
Yzeman also said that the club is planning to announce its final roster moves Friday.
“I want to get our roster back to 53 and get our team back to the playoffs,” Yzem said in a statement.
“We have some tough decisions to make in the offseason and we’re going to get them right.”
Johnson, a restricted free agent, was released on March 31.
Tampa Bay has made only the playoffs once since the team was renamed the Florida Panthers in 1998.
